Victoria MTS Challenge Conference 2010 – October 2

This years MTS Challenge Conference is going to be outstanding.

It is a new format – a one day conference in the city – on October 2nd this year.

This will be a full day of challenging people to consider full-time gospel ministry here or abroad.

We have some very very good speakers lined up.

If you are interested in going into full time ministry mark this in your diary now…

MTS are an excellent network of Melbourne (+ Victorian) evangelicals passionate about evangelism, training and ministry of the Word and prayer.

Give Jodie a medal for his insights below. If local churches could apprenticeship people and keep them involved whilst at 4 years of full time college, that would be very effective IMHO.

The danger might be that the person would never properly extract themselves from their plant to devote themselves to study. That is what often happens with part-time theological students.

In my view it might be better for us to change the culture that encourages (or demands) people leave their home church during their theological education.

If many of our current church leaders did their catechist position at their home church, then perhaps we might have given our Sydney Driscolls the opportunity to have long-term ministry during their most entrepreneurial and adventuresome years?

It won’t work for all people. The big churches usually generate more people than they can possibly keep.

But, if we allowed those who planted their own church during their ministry apprenticeship to remain as the main leader, whilst still attached by an umbilical cord to their mother church, then perhaps we might not have missed out on many opportunities to take a young church into maturity.

MTS Victoria Training Day – July 24 – Preaching Old Testament Prophets (Zechariah)

MTS (Ministry Training Strategy) is a great movement equipping and recruiting evangelical pastors and leaders.

They have Barry Webb from Moore Theological College coming on July 24th to lead this training day. It is aimed at Evangelicals in full time ministry (+ ministry interns/apprentices) but theological students are also welcome/invited.

Later in the year is the MTS Challenge Conference – August 21-23. This is a fantastic weekend of thinking about the possibilities and practicalities of full time gospel ministry. There is nothing else like it. I’ll post more about this later.

MTS Training Day – February 12th at Ridley Melbourne

The Ministry Training Strategy people have alot of practical ministry insights, especially in the area of training Christian leaders. It is also a great network of conservative mission minded evangelicals across our city. This will be a great training day at Ridley next week – Steve Williams’ work at the RMIT CU has been particularly used by God in raising up and training leaders and full-time gospel workers.

Evangelical ministers and theological students are the target audience for the training days – no need to RSVP, just rock up on the day.

Here is the program for Feb 12 (see also PDF below):

Registration:	9:00am following
Welcome:	9:30 – 9:40am
	Introduction to the Ministry Training Strategy (John Diacos)
Bible Talk:	9:40 – 10:30am
	Exposition and Question time. (Steve Williams: AFES Campus Director, RMIT)
Morning Tea:	10:30 – 11:00 am
Instruction & Question Time:	11:00-12:30 pm
	Training Others for Longterm, Vital Ministry: Its Importance, Rationale, and Method (Steve Williams: AFES Campus Director, RMIT)
Lunch	12:30-1:30pm
Workshops of Training:	1:30-3:00 pm
Women with Women	Heather Reid (Senior Staffworker at RMIT) and one of the women she has trained will discuss together their experiences in training and being trained.
Men with Men	Steve Williams and one of the men he has trained will discuss together their experiences in training and being trained.
Afternoon Tea:	3:00 – 3:30pm
