I reckon the telephone is a lot less distracting than it was even just 5 years ago. A lot more people rely on texting, fbing or good old-fashioned e-mail to communicate, especially just information.

Most times now if the landline phone rings I know it is a family member or something that is genuinely urgent. Other things get done on the mobile, which can be switched off or switched to silent. fb and e-mail are potentially distracting, but you have to be sitting at the computer for these distractions to operate.

Well, that just goes to show that one should never trust Wikipedia too much. I think Pax et bonum was what Francis would greet those whom he met on the road (sort of a Latin ‘Hello!”), while Deus Meus et Omnia is the proper motto of the Franciscan order.

I’ve got “my God and (my) all” for this. Meus is nom.masc.sg agreeing with deus, and I think omnia is neut.nom.sg. I think Packer’s translation is a bit “creative” – I mean, it gets the sense across – but not quite what the Latin literally says. Having said that, I barely passed my Latin exams and Packer blitzed through his Oxford Classics degree with alphas throughout ….

hi Tim,

I mainly use it as a media player – I am putting all our cds, dvds, home videos onto it.

There are some interesting channels (youtube, revision 3, vimeo)… I’m not really into using it for new content though. It has an ABC iview app but it is hopeless – it is easier to quit boxee and use iview from the web browser.

The feature I like most is that it brings up all videos from my twitter and facebook friends…
